Location

Crete is the largest of the Greek islands and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean Sea. It used to be the centre of the Minoan civilization, which is the oldest civilization in Europe.

The island of Crete is a periphery of Greece, consisting of four prefectures: Chania, Heraklion, Lasithi & Rethymno. Heraklion or Iraklion, is the largest city and the capital of the island.

There are a multitude of tourist attractions across Crete! The most famous are probably the archaeological sites at Knossos, Phaistos, Gortys. However, many other places, such as the Venetian castle in Rethymno, the Samaria Gorge and many other minor gorges (Agia Irini, Aradena, etc), are also of interest.

Chersonissos
Chersonissos is a town in the north of Crete, about 25 kilometers east of Heraklion and west of Agios Nikolaos. What is usually called Chersonissos is in fact its peninsula and harbour. Chersonissos is probably the most tourism-oriented town of the island. Many hotels, the famous Star Beach with its slides, bars, pools, games, bungy jumping, go-karts etc, create an atmosphere like that of a day time club.
There is also a lot to do for children.

In the main street, several souvenir shops are available, as well as other shops and restaurants. The bustling night life includes many discos, clubs, bars and pubs.

For those who prefer to rest and sunbathe during their holidays, Chersonissos also offers beautiful beaches. A number of excursions to other sites of interest on the island, or even to other islands, are of course available.

Agios Nikolaos
Agios Nikolaos is a coastal town located east of the island's capital Heraklion, north of the town of Ierapetra and west of the town of Sitia. Agios Nikolaos is the capital of the Lasithi province. The name Agios Nikolaos means Saint Nicholas – the patron saint of sailors.

Agios Nikolaos is probably best known as a tourist town that serves as a hub to the twenty or so small villages and farms that make up that part of Lassithi. Tourist attractions include the small lagoon Lake Voulismeni, small beaches in the town, the tiny island Agioi Pantes, the archaeological museum, the local flora exhibition “Iris” and numerous fairs.
