The Ferry Companies
The biggest port in Greece is Piraeus, close to Athens, where boats for Cyclades, Crete, Dodecanese and Eastern Aegean islands leave. There is another port close to Athens, the port of Rafina, which usually covers close by Cyclades islands. The port of Thessaloniki is also important, while vessels from Italy run some Ionian islands and arrive in Patras. Other smaller ports are found all over Greece to serve close islands.
Every Greek ferry company has its own rules and regulations regarding ticket issue, embarkation and disembarkation, that is why you are advised to read the policy of every ferry company. Moreover, all Greek companies make efforts to comply with the world standards in navigation: their vessels are modern and fast, while they develop environmental and social policies for the best service of their passengers.
